This early 20th century residence in Umatilla had stood vacant for quite some time, and vandals had
broken in and done quite a lot of damage.
Renovation of the structure was just the beginning of the new owner's plans. As long as most of the
roof had to be reconstructed, he reasoned, why not add a partial second story? Why not add a
second story deck (which would have to be located above the roof of the first floor, due to setback
requirements) to take the best advantage the views of the lakes to both the front and the rear of the
ACS seconds that thought: Why not? We put the owner's wishes into plans, and therefore into
reality, making the most of the remaining structure while creating an updated design compatible with
the original style of the residence.
